The Fox Wolf Watershed Alliance (FWWA)—the non-profit we selected to be uBu’s “1% for the Planet Partner”—is working to rally 1600 volunteers to do a massive clean up of the Fox and Wolf Rivers watershed on May 6th. Imagine cleaning up the river and then enjoying a massive picnic in Appleton with a veritable army of volunteers. Even better, imagine being able to enjoy our rivers and lakes without the accumulated detritus of the past 12 months. Last year they had over 1600 volunteers and collected nearly 9,000 pounds of garbage. Speaking as a parent, if you have kids, this will be a wonderful way of helping them understand that people can have a positive impact on the natural world. If you live within the watershed, including Lake Winnebago, there is a clean up site near you. Service to your community and ecosystem is the best way of kicking off the season!
I particularly put this out there for my Green Bay, Allouez, and De Pere area neighbors… The people of the Fox Cities are stepping up in higher numbers. Let’s not suffer the indignity of having Appletonians drive up here to clean up our mess.
Click here to go to the registration site. They are still looking for Site Leaders as well; so if you feel like taking on responsibility, they need you. You’ll find us along the Fox River Trail, in Downtown Green Bay.
